TYPES OF VACUUM SYSTEM
The type of vacuum system is determined by:
- The application it is to be put into.
- The pressure range it has to be operated in.
- The pump down time.
Vacuum systems are divided into two:
- Static systems
- Dynamic systems
Static Systems
Static systems is one in which its made leak free, pumped down and then thoroughly out gassed by heating or guttering and is often sealed off from the pumping system. Such system must be kept clean, vacuum tight to the highest degree and be made of materials that are not porous. Static vacuum systems are mainly made of glass,
Examples of static systems are:
- X –ray tubes
- Cathode Ray tubes
- Radio and TV valves
- Thermos flasks
Dynamic Systems
This system is continuously pumped down in the presence of the gases evolving from the walls of the apparatus or from possible small leaks on the surface of the apparatus. Examples are industrial and research vacuum system
Components of a Vacuum system
The major components of vacuum systems are
a.The vacuum vessel
b.The pump
c.The piping connecting the vessel and the pump
d.The vacuum gauge
e.The valves
f.Baffles and traps
g.Seals and other protective devises
