Meaning and Definition of labor laws
Labor laws refers to rules and regulations are put in place to govern the working relationship and protect the rights of employers and workers by clearly stipulating the obligations and responsibilities of each party to the employment. They are enforced by the Kenyan government agencies to ensure that there is harmony in the workplace.
Labor laws are set to protect both the employer and employee .The basic subject matter of labor law can be considered under nine broad heads: employment; individual employment relationships; wages and remuneration; conditions of work; health, safety, and welfare; social security; trade unions and industrial relations; the administration of labor law; and special provisions for particular occupational or other groups.
Labour relations determines the rights of workers, employers and trade unions, in particular the right to fair remuneration, the right to reasonable working conditions, the right to join a trade union or employer’s organization, the right to strike and the right to engage in collective bargaining.
