General Procedure for Cleaning Laboratory Items
- Before cleaning, inspect the apparatus for damage and extent of contamination then determine the appropriates type of cleaning required
- Clean as soon as you can to avoid the formation of hard-to-remove residue.
- Use the Right Brush- Make sure you have a variety of brush sizes on hand suitable for cleaning laboratory glassware of all kinds, including test tubes, funnels, flasks and bottles.
- Use the Right cleaning reagent – cleaning agents with mild abrasive action will give better results on very dirty glassware, as long as the abrasive doesn’t scratch the glass.
- Start with the gentlest methods, If the stain is not removed, move on to longer soaks and harsher cleaners.
- Sterilize Before Cleaning When Necessary
- Finally, when the glassware is fully clean, rinse it thoroughly and allow it to dry.
